The most effective way to help me focus is using an app called Forest.

I used to have a very short attention span, because I just couldn’t help checking what’s new on the social media and I like to chat with my friends on the phone. So my study efficiency was always very low.

So one day, my teacher came up with an idea to help me solve this problem. She recommended this app to me, Forest, as the name suggests, it has something to do with trees. And here’s how it works. After you download this app, you could plant a virtual tree in this app, and if you could leave your phone alone for over half an hour after the tree is planted, the young tree will grow into a bigger tree. And if you successfully plant 50 trees, which means you have a small forest in your phone, someone will actually help you plant a real tree somewhere. And the coolest part is, the tree will be named after you. However, if you can’t resist the temptation of playing with your phone, and touch your phone in less than 30 minutes after the tree is planted, the tree will be dead, but of course, you are allowed to use some of the apps in your phone, like the dictionary or music apps.

So you see, this app has helped me become more self-disciplined and more concentrated when I’m studying.
