老是寻找托言为超速行为脱节的人，
交警给他开出了一张不一样寻常的罚单……
这张罚单让这个无视规则的人
从此完全戒掉了开快车。

《迟到的晚餐》
there was once a man who rushed home in his car because he wanted to have dinner with his wife. he drove too fast and therefore, a police officer stopped him and wanted to give him a fine. the man felt he didn’t deserve the ticket and was angry at the officer, although he knew he was driving too fast. but when he read the ‘ticket’ the police officer gave to him, he felt very ashamed. for instead of a ticket, the officer had given him 沈阳成人英语口语培训班a short letter in which he told him he had lost his daughter when she was six years old, because then, she got hit by a car and had died.
jack took a long look at his speedometer before slowing down: 73 in a 55 zone. fourth time in as many months. how could a guy get caught so often?
杰克细心地看了一眼迈速表——车速73，限速55，然后怠慢了车速。这现已是几个月来的第四次了，一自个怎么会如此频频地被抓到？
when his car had slowed to 10 miles an hour, jackpulled over, but only partially. let the cop worry about the potential traffic hazard. maybe some other car will tweak his backside with a mirror. the cop was stepping out of his car, the big pad in hand.
车速减到每小时10英里时，杰克把车子靠边停了下来，但车子停靠的方位间隔路旁边还有一段间隔。这让差人很忧虑会构成后续的交通事端——或许其他车的后视镜会剐到这辆车的尾部。差人走出警车，手里拿着一个大大的便笺簿。

jumping out of the car, he approached a man he saw every sunday, a man he’d never seen in uniform. "hi, bob. fancy meeting you like this." "hello, jack." no smile. "guess you caught me red-handed in a rush to see my wife and kids." "yeah, i guess." bob seemed uncertain. good.

at the dashboard. he was in no rush to open the window. the minutes ticked by. bob scribbled away on the pad. why hadn’t he asked for a driver’s license? “

whatever the reason, it would be a month of sundays before jack ever sat near this cop again. a tap on the door jerked his head to the left. there was bob, a folded paper in hand. jack rolled down the window a mere two inches, just enough room for bob to pass him the slip.

"thanks." jack could not quite keep the sneer out of his voice. bob returned to his police car without a word. jack watched his retreat in the mirror. jack unfolded the sheet of paper. how much was this one going to cost? wait a minute. what was this? some kind of joke? certainly not a ticket. jack began to read:
“谢谢”杰克几乎没有点缀住自个声响中带有的冷笑口气。鲍勃则一声不吭地回到了警车上。杰克从后视镜顶用目光将鲍勃送上了车，然后翻开了那张纸。这次得罚我多少钱？等一下，这是啥？不是开玩笑吧？杰克手中的纸的确不是罚单。上面写道：

jack turned around in time to see bob’s car pull away and head down the road. jack watched until it disappeared. a full 15 minutes later, he too, pulled away and drove slowly home, praying for forgiveness and hugging a surprised wife and kids when he arrived.
杰克当即转过身去，可鲍勃的车现已开走了，正沿着公路朝远处驶去。杰克凝视着那辆车，直到它不见在公路的止境。足足15分钟后，他也建议了轿车，速度缓慢地将车开回了家。回到家里，他拥抱了有些惊奇的老婆和孩子们，心里恳求着宽恕。
the moral of this story: life is precious. handle it with care. this is an important message; please pass it along. drive safely and carefully.
