A group of 10 high-profile figures and common citizensgifted with wisdom, bravery and tenacity(顽强), including Nobel Prize-winning physicist Yang Zhenning, China's legendary sprinterSu Bingtian, as well as China's space community, were honored as inspirational role models in this year's Touching China awards announced by China Central Television on Thursday.

Renowned Nobel Prize-winning physicist, Yang Zhenning, became the first Chinese-American scientist who applied to return to China after the US justliftedthe ban on visits to China in 1971. Yang also sponsored hundreds of Chinese scholars tofurther theirstudies in the US through a committee for education exchanges he established in New York. These talents later became the backbone of the construction of China.

This year's Touching China awards also focused on China's space community for opening new horizons in the starry ocean of the cosmos, including building China's own space station, a smooth interplanetary travel and landing beyond the Earth-Moon system

The renowned aircraft designer, who won the State Preeminent Science and Technology Award , is the only person in the country's aviation industry to hold membership of both the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
顾诵芬：获得国家卓越科学技术奖的著名飞机设计师，是中国航空工业中唯一同时拥有中国科学院和中国工程院院士的人。
He pioneered the aerodynamic design of aircraft, which advanced the development of a number of major jet fighters, including the Nanchang CJ-6, a basic training plane, and the Shenyang J-8, a high-speed, high-altitude single-seat interceptor.
Those aircraft not only greatly improved China's air defense capabilities but also laid the cornerstone of its aviation industry.

1958年，他刚下朝鲜战场又上青藏高原。因目睹战友痛苦去世，吴天一下决心开展高原病学研究，一干就是60余年。调研期间，他遭遇车祸，全身14处骨折；长期奔波中，他先后耳膜穿孔、双眼白内障，患慢性高原心脏病…但他说：“没有这样的献出，不会有这样的获得。”青藏铁路建设期间，吴天一用缜密周全的方案，保障14万筑路大军无一例因高原病死亡。致敬！
