很多备考雅思的烤鸭们对雅思写作有很多的误解，其中一个就是“用词”，以为用的词越高深偏僻就显得作文特别有水准。其实写作更讲究的是用词的“精”和“准”，即使这个词只是一个常见词汇，只要用得好，同样能有非凡的效果。相反，如果一味地追求用词“高深”，导致用词不准，表达的意思模棱两可，那才是真正踩了雅思考官的地雷。举个例子：
The player is usually the ‘hero’ of the
game and too much exposure can encourage children to be self-centered and
insensitive to others .

这句话中用得最巧秒是” exposure”和” encourage”. “too much exposure”意思就是 ”电脑游戏打得太多”。“exposure”的本意是“暴露”，这我们都知道，但能有几个人在这个语境下想到使用这个词呢？
除了这个“暴露”的意思，“exposure”还有指“在量或度上，密集地，频繁地接触某物”。譬如“exposure to smoggy weather”表示“暴露于或置身于雾霾中”,就是说雾霾天气严重。所以，用”exposure”可以精准和巧妙地表达了“过度玩电脑游戏”。

由此可知，在雅思写作中，用词并不是追求多么高深和逼格，而是“精巧”。如何才能提升用词精巧的能力?这是我们要探讨的另一个问题了。这需要我们去了解很多看似平凡常见的词的内在引申含义，并研究怎样能在在特定的语境中引用才能传达最准确特定的含义。要提升用词能力，最直接的办法就是精读。因为雅思阅读与雅思写作紧密相连，能写出多少东西决定于读过多少东西。每天安排一定的时间坚持精读，养成查词典的好习惯，搞清楚一些词语的用法，摘录一些单词的典型用法。
比如这句话：Giving detailed feedback makes it easier for students to know where
they did well and where they might have struggled
详细的反馈(如考试后)让学生更容易知道自己哪些地方掌握得好，哪些地方有不足。
这句话中用得最巧的就是”struggle”.这个词普遍常见意思就是“挣扎，奋斗”，用在这里就表示还有需要努力改进的地方,也就是” to try very hard to do sth when it is difficult or when there are
a lot of problems.”这样地道的用词功力才是高分写作真正需要的。
